Headland's pupil to appear on Countdown

We are delighted to announce that one of our pupils from Headlands School will be making a TV appearance on Tuesday 3rd May.

Post 16 student, Thomas, secured a place on Channel 4's Countdown challenge, and recently went to Salford for filming.

Practicing his independent travel skills, Tom took the train from Cardiff to Manchester and then on to Salford for an overnight stay.

On the day of filming, Tom had to undergo a make-up session, and was lucky enough to be able to chat with Rachel Riley who happened to be in the chair alongside him.  Tom also got to sit in the Green Room and experience at first hand, the workings of a TV studio.

Tom was directed to the the Challenger's chair to face his competitor who had won the previous episode. Tom said, "It was so surreal seeing my name on the set and I felt so excited."

In Dictionary Corner, tennis player Greg Rusedski was on hand to assist and Tom was able to fit in a photo opportunity as a memento of the day.

Speaking of his appearance on the show, Tom said "Overall it was a great experience and I would love to get the chance to do it all again."

Please take the opportunity to watch Tom when the programme is first aired on Channel 4 (3rd May at 3.10pm), or catch-up afterwards to see how Tom got on.

We are extremely proud of Tom's achievement in representing both Headlands School and Action for Children on national TV.
