I first was made aware of the work Action for Children does, many years back now at a Spring fundraising event they used to organise.

It brought lots of people together from the Methodist community, which is how I first got involved. A member of staff, who used to work at Action for Children, came along and she spoke all about the fantastic work they do for children, and the various projects they run. The Spring Lunch doesn’t happen anymore but there are lots of other events happening that I come and help out at instead!

Stewart is such a brilliant supporter, so brilliant in fact that he was actually volunteering at a Christmas fair just this weekend! Here is a picture of him in action from last year's fair.

Cheering at different events like the marathon, and ride London is also one of the things I really love to do. It’s so great for all the amazing athletes. They are pushing their bodies to extreme limits, all to raise money.

Imagine running the London Marathon and you've been running for 24 miles. To then see a group of people waving their banners and cheering is so good for their morale. Sometimes it’s the final push they need, and you can see how much the runners love the cheer points. There's always have such a good atmosphere.

Though, my favourite event we do is Epsom book fair, which is held at the Methodist church. I am a huge book lover, so I really love volunteering at this event in particular. It’s a wonderful sight to see so many books, it’s unbelievable actually. You’ve never seen so many books in one place, there are boxes and boxes and boxes, just sheer volumes of books! I think that’s how we’re able to raise so much every year.

"I really support the charity in all its work and truly believe that Action for Children are doing important work for Children in this country. That's why I work with them so much."

I get involved in other events too, like bucket collections at Waterloo station and carol singing. We also do lots of collections in supermarkets and out on the street. I enjoy talking to people about the work Action for Children does, and raising money.

It feels like a good way to spend my time, because you know where the money is going. You can see what the results are, and that’s where the fundraising is going. I love that the money we raise helps projects like the short breaks in High Wycombe.

"The team are all such fantastic and lovely people and are a privilege to work with. I really mean that."

It feels great to know that the fundraising that we all get involved with results in so many places helping children. It does make me feel pleased that we're helping make a difference to children's lives.
