Tackling homelessness in Northern Ireland

Preventing homelessness

Action for Children is working with partner organisations to prevent homelessness.

In Omagh and Enniskillen we have provided a floating support, working where we are needed, to support young people aged 16-24 to find a new home. We support them in getting back to work to or training and with health issues.

We also provide a 13 bedded unit in Enniskillen for young people to live until they are settled enough to get their own place.

Supported lodgings

Commissioned by the Northern HSCT, Western HSCT and Supporting People our most recent service is the Supported Lodgings service.

This recruits local people to provide a safe place for young people leaving care (aged 17-25) to stay in a family home and help with cooking and life skills to equip them for an independent future.

Such an environment will offer tailored levels of housing and social care support to enable young people to develop the practical, emotional and relationship skills needed for a successful transition to independence and adulthood.

Homelessness is increasing – but we are making a difference in the services we provide.
